2. What is it? An action verb is a word that expresses action. It tells what the subject does or did. A direct object is a noun or pronoun that receives the action of the verb. It answers the questions what? or whom? after the verb. An indirect object is a noun or pronoun in the predicate that answer to whom? or for whom? or to what? After an action verb. An indirect always comes before the direct object.
