Brain Structure The human brain is divided into two hemispheres that are connected by a bundle of nerves called the corpus callosum Each hemisphere of the brain controls one half of the body but also specializes in certain tasks

Left Brain Controls right side of body Processes information sequentially Specializes in language and reasoning Right Brain Controls left side of body Processes information holistically Specializes in sensory perception

Implications for Learning Some people have a left or right brain dominance Left brain dominance suggests a learning preference for things that are ordered and structured, such as mathematics, science, and expository writing Right brain dominance suggests a learning preference for things that are open-ended and creative, such as art, music, and creative writing.

Visual Learning Processing information through the sense of sight Learning aided by charts, graphs, diagrams, maps, etc.

Auditory Learning Processing information though the sense of hearing Learning aided by verbal explanations or directions

Read/Write Learning Processing information through written language Learning aided by written explanations or directions

Kinesthetic Learning Processing information through an interactive use of multiple senses Learning aided by hands- on activities
