Astrolabe It is developed in the Middle East Europe gets it through trade It uses the position of the sun and stars to allow explorers to calculate their latitude

Compass Developed in China The needle points north/south Used with the astrolabe to allow ships to travel in a straight east/west line without having to see land.

Caravel Before the caravel, Europeans will use shallow galleys to move goods through water. The caravel sits deeper in the water, and is more stable in rough seas. It will also hold more cargo. The caravel could be equipped with cannons.
