2 Be Present: Both feet should be in the classroom before the bell rings. Being present also includes participation in daily activities and discussions, as a speaker and as a listener. Be Nice: All students will be polite and respectful to each other and to me. We will share personal opinions and perspectives in this class and should handle any conflicts with grace and maturity. Be Prepared: Be sure to bring necessary materials, work, and an open mind each day when you walk through the door.

3 CELL PHONES At AHS, we have red zones and green zones. A green zone means you are allowed to use your phone. The hallways during passing periods are green zones. Feel free to text, Snapchat, tweet, etc. during passing periods. A red zone means cell phone use is not permitted. My classroom is a red zone unless I specifically tell you otherwise. I do try to incorporate cell phones in our lessons as much as possible. However, if we are not using cell phones for our lesson that day, I do ask that you please refrain from using them. The posted consequence plan applies for unauthorized cell phone use.

4 LATE WORK AND MAKE UP WORK Work that is not turned in at the beginning of class is considered late and follows the AHS late work policy of -20 points per day. – One day late means a 100 becomes an 80 and a 70 becomes a 50! If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the work that you missed. There is a blue bin located at the front of the room; you can look for copies of worksheets there. You will need to ask a table partner for any missed notes and warm-ups. – You only have one day for every day you were absent to make up work. Ex: You missed Monday. You get the work on Tuesday. It is due on Wednesday. After Wednesday, it is considered late. – If you are absent on a test day, you have one week to attend tutorials and make up that test. You will not be given class time to make up the test. – Even if you are absent on the due date of a major essay, it needs to be submitted electronically or it’s late. – If you miss school on the review day before a test, you are still expected to take it when you return to school.
