Annotate the extract – identify four or five quotes you intend to use Closely analyse the language and the effects it creates Make connections to the wider themes or ideas in the text

Four or five PEEL chains Six minutes per PEEL chain Invest the time in annotating the text – finding your five quotes/ observations Avoid “storytelling”

Revision Tips Make sure you know the plot of each text inside out Be clear on the main themes, ideas or messages behind the stories Practise spelling key words – character names, title words, authors, technical vocabulary like metaphor and simile, words to explain the effects of quotations such as suggests, illustrates, highlights, creates, provokes etc. Use your tick lists to help you practise PEEL chains – look carefully at the examples you have created with your teachers – how do your efforts compare? Watch the films by all means but really the books are the focus of the exams
