What is Family Planning? Family planning is the practice of controlling the number of children in a family and the intervals between their births, particularly by means of artificial contraception or voluntary sterilization.

Infertility Infertility- the inability to conceive a child Options for couples Adoption Artificial insemination In Vitro fertilization Ovum transfer Surrogate mother

Adoption By adopting a child, a couple legally takes on all responsibilities and rights for a child in need of a permanent home.

Artificial Insemination Doctor injects sperm into a woman’s uterus

In Vitro Fertilization Used to treat many causes of infertility (tubes tied) Doctor combines a mature ovum from the woman with the sperm from her husband The ovum becomes fertilized and is placed in the woman’s uterus

Ovum Transfer Similar to In Vitro, but the ovum is donated by another woman

Surrogate Mother A substitute carrier (birth mother) This option requires legal arrangements for everyone involved
