I. Viruses A. Virus – tiny, nonliving particle that enters and reproduces inside a cell. B. Host Cell – cell used by a virus to reproduce

II. Structure of Viruses A. All viruses have a protein coat outside and genetic material inside. B. Surface Proteins - are used to lock on to a cell membrane.

IV. Viral Diseases: -influenza (flu) - chicken pox - West Nile - colds - AIDS (HIV) 1. Many viruses mutate into new strains, so you can catch the disease multiple times.
