Inspiring today’s children for tomorrow’s world Assessment Mr P Agnew

Assessment is changing… From this term children will be working from the New National Curriculum. This does not have levels in the same way that the old curriculum did. There are now Age Related Expectations. The expectations of what the children will know at the end of each year have been increased. Children will then be assessed as to how many of these expectations have been achieved or exceeded. We are able to relate this to the old levels and will do so to help us track pupils progress during this transitional year.

Age Related Expectations

Assessment Procedures November & February – Formal Assessments May – QCA optional SATS in Literacy and Numeracy Teacher Assessment - End of Every Term APP – using School Pupil Tracker

Inspiring today’s children for tomorrow’s world E- Safety. This is an important issue for children and adults. These are some documents to support E- Safety. They will be available along with the power point of this evening on the school website in the Y5 Class section.

How is ‘I Can Do Maths’ working? Children need to master the basics of number in primary school if they are to experience future mathematical success. Quality first teaching is the key to each child’s understanding of maths. ‘I Can Do Maths’ ensures that each KS2 child experiences, two to three times a week, differentiated mental arithmetic session followed by a weekly, quality direct teaching session.

What are the benefits of ‘I Can Do Maths’? ‘I Can Do Maths’ is differentiated to each pupils individual ability level – children have been re-tested and re-grouped. It ensures the rigour and repetition which is vital in acquiring basic maths skills. ‘I Can Do Maths’ compliments the other maths work the children do in school. ‘I Can Do Maths’ is fun and it works.

Learn Its are facts that we want the children to learn. It provides an instructional message to the children that they need to Learn it!

NUMICON We will also be developing a new system of Mathematics Learning in school this year. This system is known as Numicon. It is being introduced lower down the school as well to equip children with a real sense and image of number, ways of manipulating and finding relationships and patterns within Mathematics. It will be developed to support children with specific learning needs in small intervention groups as well as extending and challenging children who are more gifted in Mathematics.
