Year 3 Transition Meeting 2015 (For Parents of children entering Year 3 In September 2015)

Communication/Security Please ensure we have current details! Website, iphone/Android APP, texts, e-mails, paper letters (unless we can help it!), list of letters on a Friday afternoon. Coming in September… ‘Report an Absence’ button on the opening website page. TAs/Head stood on the playgrounds/gate/doors to pass on messages. ANY adult wanting to enter the building MUST do so by signing in at the office.

Uniform Black leather shoes…not trainers. Shirt/blouse/polo shirt: White Jumper/sweatshirt/cardigan: Green Trousers/Shorts/skirt: Black/D grey Dress: green/white gingham pattern Stud earrings ONLY, which should be removed for PE days. Long hair to be tied back on PE days. We are considering making a tie available as an option!

Reading and Homework Literacy/Maths and another topic. Due Wednesdays – set Fridays Homework club available for KS2 only. Reading daily – noted in planner and signed by an adult. Children responsible to change their own books – are reminded. Library weekly – 2 books max Guided Reading sessions as well as 1:1 reading Important for spellings and vocabulary.

Maths and Spelling Badges Tested weekly New spellings each week Spelling badge tested each term – once complete they need to apply knowledge – don’t complete next year’s badge. Maths badges – tested weekly Repeat badge from previous class before moving on. Given out in Celebration assembly (Fridays)

Camp, Trips and Swimming 2 trips a year Roman Baths relating to ‘The Romans’ module in Spring Term (donations) Local Walk to St Nicks Church – Summer Term (free but donations to church grateful) No camp Swimming – Term 3,4,5 and 6 every Friday (helpers wanted ) No earrings/hair tied back/full costume required/shorts for boys/goggles if needed/aids provided at pool Termly fee of £15 PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!

Equipment Pencil cases allowed (small please) All equipment available in school Drink bottles kept in class Individual drawers/pegs

Phonics Some children will be required to continue specific phonics sessions for personal development. Daily within class. Reading tests throughout the year to show application.

National Assessments New ‘Baseline’ assessment for Year R children in September. Year R children will then be assessed against the EYFS Profile; however, 2016 will be the last year this is statutory. Year 1 Phonics Screener takes place in June. 40 questions with a current threshold of 32. Year 2 and 6 (end of Phases 1 and 2) assessments will take place in 2016 based on the new curriculum. We know that there will be a ‘SPAG’ assessment, including a short piece of writing.

Year Group Assessments Weekly spelling test. Weekly Mental Maths test. Regular tables-badge test. Termly Phonics assessments in Phase 1 i.e. 3 x a year. ‘Bought-in’ reading tests twice a year (PIRA and, in Phase 2, NfER and PIRA). ‘Bought-in’ end of unit Maths assessments each term i.e. at least 6 x a year. Teachers then assess against National Curriculum and record a ‘Teacher Assessment’ 3 x a year.

PTA Currently the chairperson is Kelly Mattock. Small group who are very organised and passionate about raising extra funds for the children. Raising funds currently for a pirate ship on the Phase 1 part of the field. Next year, aiming to organise: welcome BBQ, Christmas Fayre, discos, summer BBQ. Any new members welcome! Meetings arranged to suit all members.
