PEOPLE FAMILY – People often participate in the same sports that their parents did or still do. PEERS – We often follow the pathways of our friends. If your friends play football at lunch time. You are unlikely to turn around and play tennis. ROLE MODELS – Humans naturally want to copy their role models.

IMAGE FASHION – Being comfortable in the clothing of the sport is important to people. MEDIA COVERAGE – The amount of time a sport is on the TV. Affects peoples views on the sport.

CULTURE AGE – As we go through life, we are likely to adapt the sports we participate in. DISABILITY – Having a disability can be limiting to participation. GENDER – Lots of people associate certain sports to male or female participation. RACE – People stereotypically associate certain sports with different races.

RESOURCES ACCESS – Restrictions such as age limits or price can stop people participating in sports. AVAILABILITY – The open hours can impact on your ability to try a sport. LOCATION – Where you live has a massive impact on the sports you play. TIME – Once you start working, choice of sport becomes limited due to time.

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING ILLNESS – Being sick can stop you taking part in sport. HEALTH PROBLEMS – Having a specific injury or health condition has an impact on how much sport you can do.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC COST – The price of an activity will have a direct impact on whether you choose to do it or not. STATUS – Sport often comes with status restrictions. Politicians play different sports to manual labourers.
