School Cycling Rapidly growing sport in NZ across all age groups Variety of events: Team Time Trials Individual Time Trials Road Races Criterium Points Races One of the few sports where parents can directly participate with their children A sport for life

Equipment Bike Pump Helmet/glasses Shoes/cleats/pedals Training clothing Jersey/shorts Winter clothing Polyprop/jackets/arm warmers/leggings Skin suits Wind trainers Accessories – tire levers/tubes/lights

Training Skills for the new: Road safety Learning to use equipment Learning to ride in bunches/team time trialling Fitness Building base fitness through riding -Y7 Sat or Sun (race or train), Spin on Monday(why), other sport. -Y8 as above plus mid-week ride -Y9 up Sat, Sunday (long ride), spin on Mon, Wed(am) + more if time permits. Lots in school holidays. Cross-training through other sports Speed ( we want more of this!!!) Practising TTT (16km only so need to go fast! ) Racing

North Harbour Junior and Middle Schools Tour May 23/24 North Island Secondary School Road Champs 4 th /5 th July – Cambridge NZ Secondary Schools Individual Cycling Champs Sep 5- 6 th (Mt Wellington) North Island Intermediate and Middle Schools Cycling Championships Taupo Sep TBC National Secondary Schools Road Champs Sep- 26 th -27 th Palmerston North.
