THE SADC GENDER PROTOCOL SUMMIT 2014 PRINT- MEDIA Botswana, Gaborone,14/04/14, Kaone C Moala 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

SYNOPSIS My organization identified Neo Motlhoki (victim) at the 2013 Gender Links Summit where she gave a sob story about her abusive partner. I decided to right this article because I wanted to rise awareness on issues of Gender Based Violence in Botswana. The perpetrator is the father of the victims 4 children and for this reason she felt she had to endure the pain so that she can save her marriage. The story responds to the cries of GBV in Botswana and the rest of the continent.

BACKGROUND 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA I was raised by an abusive father and that makes me a witness/victim of gender based violence. GBV does not only affect victims physically, it also affects them emotionally, psychologically and otherwise. The story addresses men as perpetrators and women as victims. Boys should be taught at a tender age that women are not a subject of abuse.

BRIDGING THE GAP ON GBV BLESSINGS

TARGET AUDIENCE When I wrote this article I hoped to reach out to young boys, to teach them about the dangers of gender based violence. To the young girls…it is never too late to walk away from an abusive relationship. 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

PUBLIC PARTICIPATIONS 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA Last year our organisation organised a clean up campaign that was graced by the BDF, city mayor, the residents of Ledumang as well as The Broadcasters members. We do this to try to achieve one of Botswana’s vision 2016 pillars, ‘An Educated And Informed Nation’, that is why we brought together 4 primary schools last year April to take part in Art Day competitions under the theme “Reporting On Gender”.

CONCLUSION God created a woman out of a man’s rib. A woman was created to be a partner becouse God felt sorry for the poor man who was all alone and bored. The question now remains, how can you abuse someone who was created to bring happiness to your life..

CONT Ladies and Genglemen let us all work together in fighting Gender Based Violence. Like a Setswana saying goes “Kgetsi ya tsie e kgonwa ke go tshwara” TOGETHER WE CAN…….
