Preparation of the Body Revision lesson 1 Wednesday 9th March

Lesson objectives Revision grid (10 mins) Interpreting questions Revise over the areas that were highlighted as problem in the interpretation worksheet

Interpretation results Part A Answer: Definition of each aspect of fitness from any type (3 to be safe!) Why each method is needed to perform effectively in hockey E.G. Good agility will allow me to move quickly and accurately on the pitch. During corners I am closely marked by a defender, I need to fake a run to one side and then quickly move away in the other direction to lose my defender. This provides my team mate with a passing option inside the box. I must move into the appropriate space to receive the pass and be in a good position to shoot.

Interpretation results Part B *This is a discussion question – you have to give your opinions on the why it is important to plan* Answer: Intro: Explain why planning is important in general – to ensure improvements are made *This question could be a 3/3 split – planning to implement / planning to monitor*

Interpretation results When implementing must consider: The positional requirements Your weaknesses (specific) & targets (achievable) The principles of training (explain how you would implement these and why you implement them in that way) When managing you must consider: What methods you will use to monitor (why are these useful) When you will re-test to ensure training is effective & what / why you would overload

Interpretation results Part C *This is a discussion question – you have to give your opinions on why training should be specific* Answer: Intro: State (& define) the fitness you are training to improve Define specificity (explain that it is a principle of training) *This question could be a 3/3 split – Specific to demands of activity / specific to personal needs*

Interpretation results Specific to the fitness demands of the activity: Tailor training to match the actions used in a game – football requires a lot of running therefore it must feature in your training e.g. fartlek training Give examples of the demands of the activity E.G. I need to ensure training will allow me to move at different paces relative to the game for the 90 minute duration. When moving past a defender……………. E.G I need to ensure I have skills practices in my programme so that I can sustain a high skill level throughout the game. I must ensure that I am working at a fast pace…………………… Personal needs: Ensure training is not too easy – no improvements would be made, training would not affect your game Ensure training is not to challenging – lose interest, motivation will be low, unsuccessful Must be something you enjoy to ensure it is achievable

Interpretation results Part D Answer: Intro: Name the method of training & aspect of fitness Explain what progressive overload is (principle of training)

Interpretation results Explain why it is important to use this principle of training: Must be progressive to ensure there is achievable targets in the set time frame (6 weeks) Body adapts to training after a period of time, you need to overload to continue improving Ensures you meet your long term targets (explain what these are) Overload by increasing frequency, intensity or duration – give specific examples i.e. In week 2 I increased the duration of fartlek training to 25 minutes, I was finding that after 20 minutes I was less tired and was coping with the demands of the training quite well. In order to continue towards my long term target I had to increase the duration to keep on track. *You would give at least 2 specific examples for 5 marks*

Interpretation/timed question You have 12 minutes to complete the following question: Q. Choose two different methods of training that you have used (or have considered using) to develop one type of fitness. Discuss the merits that each method offers for the development of your performance in your chosen activity. (5)

Homework reminder Due date: Tuesday 15 th March Task: Depending on your prelim scores and/or how confident you feel with an area answer 1 of the following past paper questions: Preparation of the body: 2009 Q4 Skills and Techniques: 2009 Q6 Structures and Strategies: 2009 Q7
