Process planning for machined products Presented by Len Slovensky –Northrop Grumman / SCRA
2
Intent of process planning AP Data sharing between dissimilar CAPP systems Data sharing between CAPP and CAM Digital capture and archive of legacy process planning data Supports migration of process plan data from outdated planning systems to more robust systems Move process plans through the system faster and provide a more consistent way to establish and enforce part standards. –(digital vs paper) Provide for a cost-effective and dependable means for identifying and estimating the labor and material constituents of the total part cost
3
Intent of process planning AP Establish consistency in process plan structure and content Enable tooling classifications of cutting tools for identifying optimum machine feed rates and spindle speeds. Enable selection and classification of tools based on part geometry

AP213 Scope The following are within the scope of this part of ISO 10303: –information from the planning activity that is contained in the NC process plans for machined parts; –work instructions for the tasks required to manufacture a part, using numerical control, which include: 1) references to the resources required to perform the work; 2) the sequences of the work instructions; 3) relationships of the work to the part geometry. –references to standards and specifications declared in the process plan;

AP213 - Scope The following are within the scope of this part of ISO 10303: –information required to support NC programming of processes specified in the process plan; NOTE - This includes product definition, administrative data, machine, tooling, and material requirements. – information required to support in-process inspection specified in the process plan; NOTE - In-process inspection includes such tasks as using gauge blocks or performing a probing operation to verify the dimensional constraints placed upon the part. –shop floor information specified in the process plan. NOTE - Shop floor information contains such items as part routing, machine setup, and part loading instructions.

AP2XX expanding scope of AP213 AP2XX is the packaging of data for macro process planning, contains the drawing, tool sheets, fixture sheets, and process sheets. process plans need to take into account macro and micro plans –AP2XX is not a static macro file, but a dynamic file used as input and output by micro and macro Macro needs to handle both the older M and G code standard and handle the new ISO-14649 standard. AP2XX activities need to be made more robust. –detail activities at a lower level than AP213 currently –activities to use features –Activities could be made more granular, material removal activity can be - rough cut, finish cut. –Activities to support non-NC activities: heat treat, welding, grinding… –Activites to support machining of an assembly –Activities that can address 85% of industry.

AP2XX expanding scope of AP213 All manufacturing APs must be consistent. Features constant across activities, of APs. AP213 currently identifies NC part program as input to an activity, –Broaden AP2XX to also include ISO-14649 data. drawings – –Raster –geometrically_bounded_surface_shape_representation –geometrically_bounded_wireframe_shape_representation AP2XX needs to support AP224 Features –Then AP2XX Would be the Input to a process that creates ISO-14649 data. –Would Include All the Process Info - Fixtures, Tools, Material, Geometry, and Features.

AP2XX expanding scope of AP213 GD& T needed for –inspection activity, –in line quality insurance, or –in process gauging activities To ensure consistancy. all manufacturing application protocols need to have the same product structure, they need to be harmonized with the current PDM schema being developed within SC4.
