B ACKGROUND To investigate the use of “technology distractions” to increase learning experience and engagement of students. Context: MA/MBA students with diverse international backgrounds. Used in 2 out of 4 tutorials in Global Business. 5 mini ipads distributed in classes of 15-25 students.

R ATIONALE FOR R ESEARCH Problems in previous years Lack of engagement of non-presenters in group presentations. Information asymmetry: Students had little access to information during the tutorial discussions. Insufficient collaborative learning

A PPLICATIONS OF MINI IPADS IN TUTORIALS 1. To video record formative presentations for self development. 2. Tutor and non-presenting students uploaded comments into wikis for the presenting groups. 3. In small group discussions. 4. As a research tool to brainstorm final report questions.

M ETHODOLOGY Data collection: Questionnaires Types of Questions Benefits and Limitations of ipads. Rank usefulness of ipads in its applications. Ipad ownership & usage of mini ipads distributed. On whether ipads increased learning experience, understanding & engagement. Value of ipads vs traditional means in group presentations/ small group discussions. Method of Analysis Mixed method approach combining thematic analysis of responses with descriptive statistics.

C ONCLUSIONS Students happy to embrace the incorporation of technology into tutorial activities. The use of ipads contributes to the learning experience of students. There is a need to develop learning activities that complements the use of technology. Students bring their own e-tablets or laptops. Future Research Areas.
