3 Hair Follicle: base that hair grows out of embedded in the dermis Shaft: hair that extends from the skin Hair acts to keep us warm! All hair above skin is dead and keratinized

4 Muscles Arrector Pilli-attached to hair follicle, raises hair to keep body warm (goosebumps)

5 Glands Sebaceous Glands-small gland that secretes oily sebum onto hair follicle Sweat Glands-coiled glands in dermis that produce sweat Eccrine Glands-major sweat glands, found all over the body Appocrine Glands-active after puberty, found in the pubic area and armpits, activated during sexual intercourse

6 Blood Vessels Capillaries (really small blood vessels) are found in the dermis Bigger blood vessels are found in the hypodermis Supply the skin with nutrients and fluids

7 Adipose Fat found mostly in hypodermis Keeps body warm, stores extra energy
