Post- Secondary Research Project By: Nehasu Cambel

How Long is this program?  Automotive engineering is a branch of mechanical engineering that concerns the design, development and manufacture of cars, trucks, motorcycles and other motor vehicles. Automotive engineers also design and test the many subsystems or components that comprise a motorized vehicle. Is it full or part-time?  The Automotive Technician process requires time spent on the job and in-school training. An Automotive Technician trainee must complete a four-year program including 6,480 workplace hours and 780 in-school hours of training. After completion of training, a passing grade on inter- provincial exams will result in the BC Certificate of Apprenticeship and the Certificate of Qualification, with Red Seal Inter-provincial Certification.

What credentials will you receive once you have completed this program?  The most common degree programs for mechanical engineers are offered on the bachelor's and master's levels, and there are no diploma programs in the field. However, there are some universities that offer graduate certificate programs for aspiring mechanical engineers and those already working in the field. What kind of credentials will you receive once you have completed this program? Automotive Service Technicians (AST) are proficient in using computerized diagnostic equipment to test, adjust and repair key vehicle components such as engines, steering systems, braking systems, drive trains, vehicle suspensions and electrical systems. With the Ford ASSET Option, you not only receive your credentials as an Automotive Service Technician, you also receive specialized training focused on Ford products and complete Ford accredited courses

What are the entrance requirements?  Hold a four-year honours undergraduate engineering degree in a relevant field from an accredited engineering program at a Canadian university, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.  Minimum overall academic standing of a B (GPA: 3.0 on a 4.3 scale or 73 to 76 per cent), with a minimum B in the last two full-time years (four semesters) of undergraduate work or equivalent.

What does this program prepare you to do?  High school students aspiring to become automotive engineers should develop a solid foundation in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and pre-calculus, physics and chemistry.  These subjects are central to understanding the core concepts of any engineering discipline. Automotive engineering students need effective oral and written communications skills.

based on the information you have able research do you think you are a good candidate for this program?  Yes, I think so because they need a active people that can work in there store or something that you can work on.
