Outline of the course This BTEC course is designed to provide a specialist, work-related qualification in understanding the retail sector. It provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare for employment or further study. The course has a degree of involvement with local retailers and the use of ICT for research and project production You will also be undertaking work experience

Assessment requirements The course is assessed using 100% coursework and leads to a vocationally relevant qualification worth 1 GCSE at grade C

Units of Study To achieve the qualification you are required to achieve 14 credits and must therefore pass all of the seven units shown in the table below :

Taster Activity Customer Service is a vital part of retailing. You need to prepare a role play on how you would deal with a customer in the following scenario: First Scenario The shoes you have purchased the other day have been damaged after just two days of wearing the shoes. One of you must be the sales assistant the other the customer You will need to act out this role play

Second Scenario You work in a bank as a customer service assistant. An angry customer phones up complaining that they have found out that money has been coming out of there account. How would you handle this situation?

Bridging Work Summer Activity Over three million people (around 11 per cent of the total UK workforce) are employed in retail in the UK There are an estimated 290,000 retail units in the UK and that UK retail sales run to approximately £290 billion annually. Your task is to research and explain 6 interesting facts about retail that you find independently Summarise the main reasons why retail is so important to UK business List the websites where you found this information
