5  Students will be required to earn an endorsement in the one of the following areas: 1. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) 2. Business and Industry 3. Public Services 4. Arts and Humanities 5. Multidisciplinary Studies An endorsement is essentially a sequence of courses in a career cluster that will better prepare our students for a career they are potentially interested in

6 For Example: A student wanting to be a welder will earn a “Business and Industry” endorsement and complete the following sequence of courses: 9th Grade:Principles of Agriculture 10 th Grade:Principles of Architecture and Construction 11 th Grade:Welding 12 th Grade:Welding II For Example: A student wanting to be an engineer will earn a “STEM” endorsement and complete the following sequence of courses: 9th Grade:Principles of Architecture 10 th Grade:Engineering Design 11 th Grade:Concepts of Engineering, Robotics 12 th Grade:Aeroscience, Practicum

7 Required Assessments For Class of 2017, 2018 and Beyond English I English II Algebra I US History Biology All students must meet at least the level two standard on all 5 EOCs to meet graduation requirements. Retests are in December, July, and taken with the Spring Administration.

8  Counselors will be talking to students about their course selection through Bridges in October-November  Students will have through early February to make changes  Confirmation of Course Selections for 2017-2018 will be given to students in early March

22 If your student plans on practicing, competing and receiving and athletic scholarship during their first year at a Division 1 or 2 school, they must be certified as eligible by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Grade 9 th  Start planning now: take the right courses and work hard to earn the best grades possible.  Please visit www.eligibilitycenter.org to view a list of NCAA Approved courses.www.eligibilitycenter.org Grade 10 th  Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at www.eligibilitycenter.org.  If your student falls behind on courses, do not take short cuts to catch up. Ask your counselor for help with finding approved courses or programs that you can take. Grade 11 th  Take the ACT or SAT (SPRING) and submit your scores to the NCAA using code 9999  At the end of the year, please visit the registrar to send your official transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center.  Make sure you are on track to graduate on time with your class.  If your student took classes at more than one high school or program, they will need to submit an official transcript for each school. Grade 12 th  Take the ACT or SAT again, if necessary, and submit your scores to the NCAA using code 9999.  Request your final amateurism certification beginning April 1 (for fall enrollees) or October 1 (for spring enrollees) in your NCAA Eligibility Center account at eligibilitycenter.org.  Please see the registrar to send or upload your final official transcript with proof of graduation to the NCAA Eligibility Center.  Only students on an NCAA Division I or II request list will receive a certification. 24  State legislated program designed to improve student success in college by requiring all students attending public institutions in higher ed to complete assessments in reading, writing, and math before enrolling in class (unless TSI exempt)  Lone Star College administers the TSI assessment  Prior to being placed in dual credit classes, students must either pass the TSI or be TSI exempt  TSI exemption: Students can be TSI exempt by making certain scores on the ACT, SAT, or STAAR

26 Dual Credit Basics Dual Credit students must: Add Dual Credit class to Bridges Plan First apply online to Lonestar College Complete Dual Credit packet from Celie Herbst (Spring) Test in March or April at Lonestar College and bring scores to KPHS See Counselor about College Prep Course if they do not meet TSI Requirements Follow college guidelines when dropping a dual credit course.
