5 If you want to volunteer, you must do the online volunteer training on the school website. When you arrive at school, you must have your photo ID ready to show. You must wear a badge at all times you are in the building. Thank you for putting our students and staff first. Shakerag needs YOU!

6 Meet Ms. Beckles I was born and educated in New Zealand. This is my 14 th year teaching in Fulton Co. and my 11th year at Shakerag. I am married to Ken and we have a dog named Sadie. 7 The Flipped Classroom Model Flipped learning is a new and exciting journey for us. We are going to turn our classroom into a student-centered, personalized learning environment. 8 Ms. Beckles’ Schedule Daily Schedule 7:55-9:05 - Math AM (group 1) 9:05-9:35 - Intervention/Enrichment 9:40-10:25- Specials 10:30-11:15 - Science or Social Studies (group 1) 11:20-12:25 - Math PM (group 2) 12:28-1:08 - Lunch (group 2) 1:10-1:30 - Recess 1:30-2:15 - Science or Social Studies (group 2) Special Area Schedule Beckles’ third grade students are divided into 4 groups, each with a different schedule. You can find your child’s schedule in their agenda. Students will go to ASL, PE, Art, and Music each week My homeroom class will go to lunch and recess with their reading teacher.

17 Leadership Notebooks We are working on making electronic leadership notebooks this year. Ask your child to walk you through their work.

18 Grading Grades are based on a variety of information – Teacher Observation – Class Participation – Written Assessment – Projects/Tests Grade Components: – Summative 35% (Tests, performance assessments, end- of-unit projects) – Quizzes: 30% – Classwork: 25% – Homework: 10% (Graded for completion, not accuracy) Grade Scale A = 90 - 100%B = 80 - 89% C = 70 - 79%F = 69% or below

19 Graded Papers In a flipped classroom there are less worksheets and more hands-on, student- centered activities happening. The result is that you won’t be seeing a lot of graded papers from my class. I am always available to answer questions that you have about your child’s progress. 20 I.T.B.S. (Oct. 24-28) – National standardized test of all content areas – Provides a baseline for students – Not something we study for – Healthy Snacks Georgia Milestones (April 17 - May 5) – Georgia standardized test for all content areas – Replaces CRCT (Georgia Measures of Achievement and Progress) – Students must pass the reading portion for promotion – Open ended questions with required explanation to show thinking Standardized Testing

22 Agendas Agendas are brought home each day Homework will be written as required by each class Sign and return the agenda daily You may also use the agenda as a communication tool between home and school **please do not write a dismissal change in the agenda.

23 Policies Homework: In a flipped class homework is usually the videos required for instruction. Math will be no more than 10-15 minutes per night. Transportation Policy: Must have ALL changes in writing (no emails accepted). Attendance: It is helpful when you e-mail me that your child will be absent or will be early/late due to an appointment. You also need to email or send me a note when your child has been out sick.

24 Miscellaneous Snack time is around 9:00am. Send in one healthy snack that is easy for your child to eat. Remember to wear sneakers on P.E. days

25 Lunch and Birthdays Extras at lunch: cash or written note by parent for child to use lunch card to purchase “extras”. Birthdays are to be celebrated in accordance with our Shakerag school policy. Please do not pass out birthday invitations at school.

26 Third grade will be sending home a written conference report before setting up conference times.. After you have reviewed the report, you can request a face-to-face conference with your child’s teachers. We will do our best to set up a time for you that allows you to meet with both teachers at one time. Thank you for your patience as we work through this process. Conferences
