Hydro-Power Definition: moving (falling) water turns the blades of turbines operating electricity generators. Power reaches communities via power lines. Advantages: *Renewable and reliable-water cycle continually supplies water *Creates lakes and reservoirs to increase local water supply/recreation *Does not produce pollution or waste *No fuel costs and low maintenance costs once the dam is built *Very efficient-makes a lot of electricity Disadvantage: *Dams are expensive to build *Loss of fish and other aquatic animals and plants -damage ecosystems above and below the dam *Can flood existing farmland (drown forests; force towns to move) *Downstream, water temp. and quality (nutrients) may change This is the thoroughness I am looking for in your foldables. It isn’t what I was seeing yesterday.

Starting tomorrow, I will give you a foldable and instructions. You know what I am looking for in it. Foldables/Venn diagrams, etc. must be finished for homework each night if not finished in class. You will have a choice of working on the project during class or working on the foldable. The project will be due next week, so don’t drag your feet on it.

Today’s foldable will be placed on the left side of page 3. In the space beside it,make a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting wind and geothermal. Be sure to include any environmental impacts. Use the textbook starting on page C-58, as well as your workbook.
