12.4 Volume of Prisms and Cylinders Goal: Find volumes of prisms and cylinders.
2
What is Volume Volume is the measure of the amount of space inside of a solid figure, like a cube, ball, cylinder or pyramid. It's units are always "cubic", that is, the number of little element cubes that fit inside the figure.

POSTULATE 27: VOLUME OF A CUBE POSTULATE
4
POSTULATE 28: VOLUME CONGRUENCE POSTULATE If two polyhedra are congruent, then they have the same volume
5
POSTULATE 29: VOLUME ADDITION POSTULATE The volume of a solid is the Sum of the volumes of all its non- overlapping parts.

THEOREM 12.6: VOLUME OF A PRISM

THEOREM 12.7: VOLUME OF A CYLINDER

THEOREM 12.8: CAVALIERI’S PRINCIPLE If two solids have the same height and the same cross- sectional area at every level, then they have the same Volume. Therefore, volume formulas for prisms and cylinders work for both right and oblique cylinders and prisms
