Ask yourself was the jellyfish….. above you between the sky and the water’s surface? show not tell …. how do you know? explain …. but show give more details … what does the water make you feel like? Can you hear the bubbles? Show not tell. Is the jellyfish beautiful or terrifying or silken glass shadows > always, always, show not tell … make your reader feel with you.

Showing not telling Showing and not telling means that you paint a picture for your reader with vivid words. A better way to understand showing and not telling is to relate it with a real life moment. Use description words, sensory words, emotional words. Think about a time where you might have seen a tree next a river. Later, you take down notes on the sensory type feelings you had and use that in your final draft.

What next…… Create a thesis statement. A thesis statement is the idea that governs the whole essay. It states the purpose of the paper and governs all of the information that is in the paper.thesis statement
