2. When you play a game of “Spot the Difference” you use the detail in the pictures to help you. SPOT THE DIFFERENCE There are supposed to be 10 differences between the two pictures!

3.  A detail is additional information about the topic you are reading about. The heading of the passage will usually give you the topic. Details help you visualize what a writer is describing. Being able to recall details helps you improve your other reading skills.

When you are reading for detail it is not the same as reading a story or newspaper just for fun – you need read more slowly, and you may need to try and figure out the meanings of unfamiliar words. Don’t forget to always look at the title and the topic sentence of the paragraph! Usually each sentence contains at least one detail. When you use the details, you shouldn’t refer back to the passage! this is one of the differences between a good reader and a great reader!

7. The Statue of Liberty is a large copper statue. It was given to the United States by France in 1884 as a symbol of friendship. It is also a symbol of the liberty that people enjoy under the United States government. The statue stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbour.  Re-read the paragraph and in pairs (without looking at the text), write down at least four details about the Statue of Liberty.
