Boston Hot-bed of Revolution 1770…British Troops Fire on protestors… The Boston Massacre. 1773 Colonists dressed as Indians threw tea in to the harbor…The Boston Tea Party Result the Intolerable Acts: Boston Harbor is closed until the tea is paid for, Soldiers a billeted in people’s houses…without permission!

Boston Boils Over 1775 Rumors of Murders, Rape and Robberies by British Soldiers spread in the Boston Area…Bostonian’s have lost jobs and now fear the Soldiers So they create a militia with weapons The British decide to seize the Weapons in Concorde… Paul Revere Rides and there are Battles at Lexington and Concorde …War Begins!

The 2 nd Continental Congress Within a month the 2 nd Cont. Congress is called. January 1776 Thomas Paine writes “Common Sense’ a pamphlet advocating independence from England July 4, 1776 Jefferson writes and Congress adopts the “Declaration of Independence” based on John Locke’s ideas of Natural Rights and Social Contract

The Colonists Win October 1777 the colonists win the battle of Saratoga encouraging the French to declare war on England in support. 1781 A surrounded British Army in Yorktown Surrenders. In 1784 England recognizes the colonies as independent in the “Treaty of Paris”
