Introduction to Engineering Camera Lab #4 – 2 Task #1 Agenda Overview of Camera Lab #4 Learn about operation of oscilloscope Review Task #1 Procedure Conduct Task #1
2
Camera Systems: Reverse Engineering Shutter: Mechanical Flash: Electrical Case: Manufacturing & Materials
3
Overview of Camera Lab #4 Measure of voltage at different points in the circuit over time using an oscilloscope and voltmeter Watch the voltage change on the oscilloscope Record and analyze the data
4
Overview of Camera Lab #4 Task 1: Watch charge on the capacitor increase and note when the neon indicator light comes on Task 2: Watch the change in the voltage when the capacitor is discharged Task 3 (Optional): Use a voltage divider to measure flash trigger transient.
5
What’s an Oscilloscope? Instrument used to measure voltage Has two channels so you can measure voltage at two points in the circuit at the same time Has a display screen that shows a graph of voltage versus time
6
Oscilloscope cont… You can control the time scale on the horizontal axis of the display screen. For example, one division might represent a second or a millisecond or some other time interval You can also control the vertical scale The oscilloscope will store the data You can use a pair of cursors to identify two points of interest on the graph and the oscilloscope will calculate and display the difference between those points.

Task #1 Procedure Summary Do “preliminary tasks: in Section 1.2 of the Camera Lab #4 procedure Follow the detailed steps under Task #1 Test box power switch OFF Connect scope and DMM Turn test box power switch ON Gather data
8
Assignment Be sure all team members have the data from Task #1 before the class ends Make/check calculations for Task #1 Answer questions under Task #1 in “Report Instructions” Read Task 2 procedure
