Grief It is completely natural to feel very sad when a loved one dies. Grief—is discomfort and sadness caused by loss, such as death of another person. The Grieving process usually includes 5 Stages… Do you know what they are?

Grieving Process STAGE 1: DENIAL —people deny that they are dying. They insist on believing that there has been some mistake in the diagnose. STAGE 2: ANGER —people who are dying or their loved ones become angry. They are feeling the forthcoming loss. STAGE 3: BARGAINING —people who are dying and loved ones bargain and make promises, hoping to get a breakthrough. STAGE 4: DEPRESSION —after the information sets in they appear hopeless, people who are dying as well as many friends, family may become depressed. STAGE 5: ACCEPTANCE –-the final stage, people who are dying accept their approaching death. They and their loved ones might say goodbye and feel a sense of peace.

Comforting a Grieving Person Do something thoughtful for the person Be a good listener Do not try to lessen the loss—avoid saying things like “In time, you feel better” or “Try not to be so sad”…say things like “I am sorry that you are hurting so much” Help the person become active Allow the person to express his or her feelings
