1 The false Self

2 False Self = Launching Pad
Your body image Your job Your education Your clothes Your money Your car Your sexual identity Your success etc.

3 These are the trappings of ego that we all use to get us through an ordinary day.
They are a nice enough platform to stand on, but they are largely a projection of our self-image and our attachment to it. When you are able to move beyond your False Self, it will feel as if you’ve lost nothing. FREEDOM and LIBERATION

4 False Self ≠ Bad Self False Self ≠ Your Clever of Deceitful Self False Self = The Ego False Self = Good and Necessary as far as it goes, but… It just doesn’t go far enough, and often poses and substitutes for the real thing.

5 The False Self is bogus more than bad, and bogus only when it pretends to be more than it is.
Costumes, masks… Necessary to get us started. They show their limitations when they stay around too long. As we grow, our various false selves usually die in exposure to greater light.

6 False Self = Who you think you are
Your thinking does not make it true! False Self = Social construct to get you started on your life journey It is your “container”

7 After you have spent many years laboriously building your container, with all its labels and preoccupations, you are very attached to it. You are attached to your container because it is what you know and all you know. To move beyond it will always feel like losing or dying

8 The False Self (the ego) does not like change.
The False Self will think up a thousand other things to be concerned about – anything rather than giving up: - “Who I think I am.” - “Who I need to be to look good.”

9 The False Self in Scripture
Luke 17:33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. Ephesians 4:20-24 But that is not the way you learned Christ! - assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

10 Stephen Levine – Who Dies
Stephen Levine – Who Dies? An Investigation of Conscious Living and Conscious Dying “If you made a list of everything you own, everything you think of as you, everything you prefer, that list would be the distance between you and the living truth.” LIVING TRUTH = THE TRUE SELF
