Bushfire? As far as I’m concerned I’m safe – this is suburbia!

Look its all a bit of a media beat-up
Look its all a bit of a media beat-up. Sure we’ve had fires in the past but all I had to do was stamp on a few embers. I keep my gutters clean.

I love having trees just outside my window and listen to the birds
I love having trees just outside my window and listen to the birds. I’m not going to clear that away. This is what I live here for!
4
Look, just text me when I should be pruning or cleaning out the gutters. Its not like I’m going to think about it otherwise.
5
As you can see I have showers on my roof, a water tank, diesel pump and fireproof hoses. I have a couple of water backpacks to put out embers.
6
As soon as I hear there is a fire, I leave and go and stay with my sister in the city. I leave my husband to it.

I keep my lawns scrupulously tidy and we don’t have any shrubs
I keep my lawns scrupulously tidy and we don’t have any shrubs. However, my neighbour’s block is heavily bushed with big trees growing over the fence that are sure to explode in a fire.
8
You don’t realise how fast the bush grows – I seem to be pruning constantly. I have managed to clear two sides of the house for about 3m, and widened our pathways. I am not getting rid of my fern garden though. I hope it’s enough.
9
I don’t think there is any point in having a plan because in a real situation things don’t go according to plan. Take the ’67 fires. I had to get through a road block to get home, the water ran out, and I watched the neighbour’s house burn.
10
I’ve rung the council, I’ve written to the council and they still will not cut down those trees on council land next door. I just know they will fall on my house in a bushfire.
