Types of TV Programs Short Format Short Format Short format programming is what you find between shows. They can be anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes in length. Short format programming is what you find between shows. They can be anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes in length. Long Format Long Format Long Format programming are the shows that are at least 30 minutes long. They can also be 1 hour or longer. They usually run in half hour increments.
