2 U.S. Health Workforce Since 2000, employment in health sector in US has grown 30%, all other sectors 4% In 2008-18.5 million in either health sector or in health occupations outside the health sector, representing 12% of the total US workforce Between 2008 and 2018, health sector is expected to grow by 23%, other employment sectors 9% Center for Health Workforce Studies, March 2010

4 How does this impact our students? Provide exposure to various careers in health care to help with career decisions. Prepare students for post-secondary level.

5 Advanced Health Occupations Course Description Grade: 10-12Credits: 2 (Two-Hour Block Class) Prerequisite: Health Occupations Exploration/Medical First Response This is a 2-hour course for students interested in a professional career in the Health Care field. Students will acquire the basic skills and knowledge to work in multiple areas of health care, both within the hospital and in the community. This course will also provide a career foundation for students interested in continuing their education at the post-secondary level.

7 7 CTE Technical Standards The curriculum for Advanced Health Occupations will directly align with the state standards. Textbook: Diversified Health Occupations – the text is aligned with the technical standards

9 9 Job Shadowing Students will have the opportunity to participate in a job shadowing experience once per quarter. Future: like to make it a regular part of the curriculum where students spend a few weeks per rotation in various departments in the hospital setting. Possible hospitals involved: Crittenton, Henry Ford, Mount Clemens Regional 9
