Course Levels Standard -Basic required curriculum Honors -More reading and writing. -Moves at a faster pace. -Students should have good reading comprehension, and are motivated. -More independent work inside and outside of class. Advanced Placement -AP courses are taught on a college level. -Students should be motivated, and self-disciplined. -AP courses are year long courses on an A/B Day schedule. -AP courses require more effort and homework than standard or honors level courses. -Students are expected to exercise critical thinking skills, utilize problem solving skills, write fluently and absorb masses of content material on a daily basis.

9 th Grade Core Placements Continued Math I EOC Level 3Standard Math II Level 4 or 5Honors Math II The only students eligible to take Honors Biology as a Freshman are students who scored a Level 5 on the Reading EOG and Level 5 on the Math I EOC.

Foundations Classes Foundation classes provide support to enable a solid comprehension of the course either in Math or English. A student does earn an elective credit for the foundation class. The foundation class is in the fall semester and the core class is in the spring semester. Example: Fall (Foundations of Math I) Spring (Math I) = 2 Credits Fall (Foundations of English I) Spring (English I)= 2 Credits Taking a foundation class does not “lock” you into or limit your ability to take honors classes later if you do well in the Core Class.

4 credits are required: World History Civics & Economics American History I or AP US History American History II or SS Elective

3 credits are required: An earth/environmental science -Earth/Environmental Science or AP Environmental Science Biology A physical science -Chemistry, Physics, or Physical Science

13 Science Examples Include: AP Environmental Studies AP Biology AP Chemistry II Honors Physics AP Physics I Honors Anatomy & Physiology Social Studies Examples Include: Psychology Sociology Latino American Studies African-American Studies AP Psychology AP Human Geography AP Government AP World History Different options are offered at each grade level

14 1 Credit of Health & Physical Education is required. It must be the course titled Health/PE 9.

8 Credits are required: 2 of these additional electives must be any combination of courses in Career & Technical Education, Arts Education, or Second Language To fulfill requirements for a 4 year college/university, 2 of these electives should be a Second Language.

16 Students need 24 credits to graduate from a CMS high school. Some students could potentially earn 32 credits.

Most Foreign Languages are only offered on A/B Day schedule. Level I & Level II will not be approved to take online. Most 4 Year Colleges/Universities require at least 2 years in the same foreign language. Example: Spanish I and Spanish II or French I and French II

Career Academies A way for you to focus on a career pathway and make plans to achieve your college and career goals Students who choose a pathway are generally more focused and achievement oriented. TWO pathways to choose from: Academy of Hospitality & Tourism Academy of Business and Entrepreneurship

Academy of Hospitality & Tourism Focuses on leadership, project management, literacy, and team building Content includes customer service, geography, hospitality marketing, sports, culinary, entertainment and event planning, and sustainable Future Careers with this concentration: Chef Event Planner Hotel Manager Restaurant Manager Wait Staff/House Keeping

Academy of Business & Entrepreneurship Prepares students to become business owners or take leadership roles in financial business arenas. Content includes entrepreneurship, project management, banking and credit, financial planning, international finance, securities, insurance, accounting, and economics Future Careers with this concentration: Chief Executives Claims Adjusters Medical Transcriptionists Operations Research Analysts Sales Manager
