Established by the European Commission ERC Scientific Council Strategy on Open Access ERC funding can not be used for the sole purpose of the collation and compilation of existing material in new databases On the other hand, the ERC is supportive of the open data pilot and beneficiaries are expected to ensure appropriate management (including preservation and curation) of the research data they generate in order to ensure its sustainability These provisions are designed to facilitate access, re-use and preservation of research data generated during the ERC funded research work. This is more or less common practice in the Life Sciences but this is not so obvious in other domains │ 11

Established by the European Commission Open to the World Grantees outside ERA at Application Note: ERC grantees residing outside the European Research Area at the time of application Mainly European researchers moving/returning from the US
13
Established by the European Commission │ 13 Open to the World Implementing arrangements Opportunity for non-European researchers supported by non-European agencies to visit ERC research teams (unilateral approach). The non-European researchers should be excellent ("national version" of the ERC grantee) The non-European scientist is the one taking the initiative in the "matchmaking" (it is not the ERC/the ERC PI/the foreign agency…) The ERC does not intervene in the selection of the non-European visitors. In general terms, costs of the visit are mostly covered by the non-European agency. Implementing arrangements signed with the following countries: USA (2012) Republic of Korea (2013) Argentina (2015) China (2015) Japan (2015) South Africa (2015) Mexico (2016) Brazil tbc Canada tbc
