For protection the colonists built a wall with big blocks of stone. In 1683 Swedish settlers discovered a colony of Sweden. 6 The England and Dutch colonies moved into parts of New France fighting over the fur trade. Both the Huron and the Iroquois Indians wanted to control land in present day Canada. Indian tribes also experienced internecine conflicts, or fighting between groups. In 1608 Samuel De Champlain settles Quebec. Marquette and and Jolieton the banks of the valley of the Mississippi,1673.

8 Worried they would enter the fur trade. Algonquian Indians had established strong trades, the trades faced troubles. The colonists sent out an army to destroy Indian villages. The two sides signed a peace treaty. Not long after the English colonies of north America, the Dutch began to construct settlements of their own. By 1626 Peter Minuit was a governer of New Netherland.

9 The Dutch bought Manhattan island from the Indians that lived there. The Indians’ ideas about land weren’t the same of those of the settlers. The Indians thought that the entire land belonged to everyone to use.

10 The French and the Dutch both began building settlements in North American in the 1600s. They both wanted to control the fur trade which often lead to fighting. They also had trouble bringing settlers to North America so the population was low.
