What a Senator needs to know…

Attend all Student Government Association/Council meetings Secure a replacement with the Alternate Senator/Delegate or an Executive Board member from the organization if absent Take notes on all important information and discussions throughout the SGA/Council meetings Give a report during all organization meetings Keep SGA/Council updated on all important information in regards to the organization Help train and transition the incoming Senator/Delegate Act as a representative/the voice on behalf of the organization Be an advocate on behalf of the University

9. FilterRelay 9. Filter & Relay important information Know what information interests your group DATES, TIMES, LOCATIONS, CONTACTS!!!! Email your notes right after SGA/Council meeting to org members (Orgsync) Give highlights from your report at your organization meeting

role and purpose 8. Know your role and purpose… Review role and responsibilities in your organization’s constitution Talk with your advisor about your role Attend all trainings, retreats, and special meetings

report time 4. Utilize your report time Be prepared for your report Know important dates no matter how far in advance they are If you “do not know,” follow up with more details via email (or at next SGA/Council meeting)

motion 1. Know how a motion works… Motions are basically group decisions Know the steps Motion is presented (from VP of SGA or from another Senator) Motion needs a second Discussion (this is when you should ask questions) Vote (approve, deny, abstentions)
