Look at the sentences below. What do you notice about the underlined words? Sylvia entered the short story contest. Now many people read her story. We enjoy her tail about a leprechaun. I wonder about the contest. Robin hoped for a prize. Turn and talk. Be prepared to share.

An Action Verb is a word that expresses action. Every sentence you write has two parts, a subject and a predicate. The main work in the predicate is often an ACTION VERB. The action verb tells what the subject of the sentence does or did.
