Parts of an Ecosystem http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
2
Ecosystem is the scientific term for a community of living and non-living things that work together. In any ecosystem, the most important relationships involve the movement of food and energy through the system, starting with the sun and involving the other main parts of an ecosystem. http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
3
Ecosystems are divided into 6 main parts: -the sun (solar energy) -abiotic substances -producers -primary consumers -secondary consumers -decomposers http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
4
The sun is a source of energy for an ecosystem. http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
5
The sun effects our ecosystems by helping plants grow very quickly. http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
6
Abiotic substances are the water, soil, and minerals found in an ecosystem. http://dmoz.org/Science/Agriculture/Soils/
7
Abiotic substances are the non-living parts of an ecosystem that living things need to survive. http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
8
Producers are the living organisms at the bottom of the food chain. -they produce food and oxygen for the other living things in an ecosystem. http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
9
Trees and plants are two examples of Producers. http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm
10
Primary consumers are the animals and insects that eat the producers. http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/
11
Primary consumers are also called plant eaters. -they are a step up on the food chain. http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/
12
Secondary Consumers are the animals that prey on the primary consumers. http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/
13
Secondary consumers are also known as meat eaters. -they are the living organisms at the top of the food chain. http://www.nhptv.org/natureworks/
14
Decomposers are the parts of an ecosystem that break down dead organisms into simple nutrients. -they eat the corpses of primary consumers secondary consumers, and the remains of producers. -bacteria and fungi are two examples of decomposers. http://www.dramainnature.com/index.htm

Review: Ecosystem-community of living and non-living things working together. Parts of an ecosystem: 1. the sun (solar energy) 2. abiotic substances-water, soil, minerals 3. producers-trees, plants, etc 4. primary consumers-plant eaters-squirrels, deer, etc 5. secondary consumers-meat eaters-wolves, falcons 6. decomposers-bacteria, fungi, etc
