Egyptian Religion Polytheistic – belief in many gods Gods represent animals, nature, magic, almost all creations of human imagination and natural life Practiced forms of ancestor worship and preservation Belief that the survival of the soul in the afterlife depended on the maintenance of the body after death

Mummification The process of embalming and preserving a body for the afterlife

Embalming The body’s organs and unnecessary live tissue are removed. Body cleaned, perfumed. Wrapping Body is wrapped in linens and placed in a sarcophagus. Funeral / Burial Funeral held and body buried.

Embalming 1. Body washed (wine, water). 2. Organs removed (except heart). Dehydrated and wrapped. 3. Body stuffed with natron. 4. Body allowed to dry for 40 days. Oil applied to skin to maintain elasticity. 5. Wrapped organs placed in body with saw dust, leaves, linens. Oil applied. Body read to be wrapped.

Pyramids Egyptian pharaohs built Pyramids with large super structures and elaborate underground sub structures. Egypt built 100, 80 still stand.
