4 Planning  The process of thinking about and organizing the activities to achieve desired results  Understanding vision/mission  Business Plans/Strategic plans

5 Organizing  Structure in the organization  Divide the work  Resources  Departments  Authority/decision  Responsibility  Management control

6 Staffing  After planning and organizing organizations need people with the knowledge, skills and abilities to staff and operate their organization  This includes hiring, orientating, training, performance and wage reviews  Having the right people are critical to success  Ongoing process

7 Leading  Managers lead their organizations using different styles and approaches to achieve the desired outcome.  Leadership styles  Autocratic  Democratic  Transactional  Transformational

8 Controlling  Verifying whether everything occurs as planned or expected based on:  Performance Standards  Plans and objectives  Look for gaps-weaknesses or errors  Monitor progress  Continuous  Management function  Used at all levels  Forward looking  Links to plan  Tool to achieve goals
