3 Infectious Disease  Infectious diseases are usually caused by either a virus or bacteria. It is important to know which one because there is a difference in the way they are treated.  Virus- (Example -common cold) Your immune system fights it off. We have vaccines for some such as chicken pox and hpv. Some viruses you have for the rest of you life such as herpes or HIV.  Bacteria- (Example -strep throat) Antibiotics will cure most bacterial infections.

4 What happens when you sleep? Your brain and body recharges itself and gets ready to face the challenges of the day.

5 What happens when you don’t sleep?  You produce less human growth hormone which is needed to build and repair tissue.  You produce less b-cells and t-cells needed for proper functioning of the immune system.  You put your body under physical stress, causing it to operate under the stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol. This leads to weaker body systems including the immune system, digestive system and the immune system.  Connections between brain cells slow down affecting learning, memory, reaction time, muscular control, decision making and emotional stability.

6 Tips for falling asleep at night  Don’t look at the clock  Write down your worries  Focus on something non-stressful, like counting sheep  Go to bed & get up at the same time every day  If you can’t sleep, get up and do something quiet
