My personal Background I, like most of you, am balancing a busy professional life with a busy personal life. I have been married for over 7 years with five beautiful boys. We’re a modern, blended family, with my husband giving me two bonus sons, 14 and 10, to add to our three together aged 6, 4, and 2. In my free time I go on mini vacations to the grocery store.

Why teach this Class? Over 15 years of experience working with beginning readers. I have developed tried and true methods for effective learning in the classroom. The pleasure of equipping future teachers with knowledge and tools needed to promote literacy. Literacy in the hands of students is POWERFUL!

Why Take This Class? What was your experience learning to read and write? Do you have fond memories of learning your letters, how to turn a page of a book, and writing your name? (I remember tagging my name on any paper I could find!). Or did you have a negative experience learning to read and write? (I was made to relearn how to write since I held my pencil the “wrong way”.) In this class we will study how to create an engaging and effective reading and writing program for students TK-3 rd grade.

How to succeed in this class! Read, Read, Read! Read the syllabus- this way you know what’s expected of you. Read course announcements- check regularly for useful and pertinent information. Read assignment descriptions, and class readings, thoroughly- This ensures accuracy and a comprehensive knowledge on what is being asked.
