Negotiated Revision Time Time management As a parent it is essential to have your child “on board” The expression win the battle but lose the war is key Discuss when is a best time to revise, look at the normal week and set aside quality revision time but make sure social and sport events can continue. Suggestion week day 1.30 hours to 2 hours revision. Weekends 4 hours Week day Eg home at 3.30 - work for 1 hour Tea -work for 30 minutes finish at 6.30 -watch TV This is an achievable goal Weekends Discuss when is the best time to work early riser ??, late night worker ?

Revision techniques To gain the maximum marks in an exam there are 2 things you must do – 1. Active revision This means you do more than just read it through you must test your knowledge Techniques may include – Creating flash cards Mind map posters Using strips of plain wallpaper to put notes on and hang around your room. Get a friend or member of your family to test you.

Note Taking Notes by copying directly from their textbooks or other material, word for word is time consuming and tedious and it actually hinders the learning process. Research has shown and the, you only need to note down approximately 20% of the total number of words in order to remember it in full. By looking at a condensed version of notes, your brain instinctively fills in the gaps. So try these methods bullet point lists, flow diagrams /mind maps own ways of making notes.

Different ways to take notes Bullet Points → Bullet points are especially used to emphasise key issues – keep them short and to the point. Flow Diagrams/Charts ↑ → These can be as simple or as elaborate as you want them to be but again, keep the notes brief.

2.Looking at the exam paper Check you know how long you have for each question. Read each question carefully – work out how many marks are awarded – 3 marks – 3 facts to be given – at least. Read the exam mark scheme

STRESS MANAGEMENT FOR STUDENTS Some Student Advice on Maintaining Self-Confidence in the Run-up to Exams Set yourself ambitious but realistic and achievable goals. Make a list of all of your daily achievements. Try to develop a sense of satisfaction and enjoyment Recognise mistakes as offering opportunities for feedback rather than as ‘failures’. Recognise that your achievements are the result of your abilities and hard work rather than just a result of chance or good luck. Celebrate and reward yourself for short-term achievements. Revise and socialise with people who appreciate and value you.

Preparations for exams Six simple steps for your students ahead of exams: 1. Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before the exam and prepare your supplies in advance to avoid extra stress. 2. In the exam, plan your answers before you start writing. Read all of the questions before choosing the options you feel most confident answering. 3. If you're stuck, identifying the key information and command words in the question can help you create your line of argument, so read the question carefully. 4. The question paper is yours to annotate and highlight during the exam, so if that helps you, scribble away! 5. Keep an eye on the time, spend the appropriate time on each question based on how many marks it's worth. 6. When you have finished, go through the paper and check all your work for errors and make sure you have attempted every question you are required to.
