1. Parent Forum Swallow Dell Primary and Nursery School

2. What is it for…  Support the school in its work with pupils  Represent the views of parents and carers  Encourage links between the school, parents and carers, pupils, pre-school groups and the wider community  Enable parents to contribute to improving behaviour, results and the school.

3. What it is not for…  Issues relating to individual children at school. If you have a specific concern about anything at school, please discuss it first with your child’s class teacher and then, if there is still a problem, you can make an appointment to see a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

4. Why have one?  Provide a voice for parents in schools and in their local authority on issues that are important to them and their children  Help the school to understand how to most effectively involve parents in their children’s learning and in the life of the school  Support the school and Headteacher in developing strong home/school partnerships  Support the school in its development and improvement, and in understanding and making links with the wider community  Capture the unique and varied skills, interests, knowledge and experience that parents can offer

5. Examples of discussion points  School Improvement Planning  Parking and safe routes to school  Cost of trips and events  Parents Evenings  Curriculum changes  Views on school policies when they are updated e.g. behaviour policy

6. Meetings  Meetings are held once every half term. Agendas will be shared in advance on the school website and on classroom doors. Should a vote be necessary to make a decision, each Forum member at the meeting will have one vote.  Minutes of the meeting will be shared via the school website and actions reported on at the following meeting. The parent Forum at Swallow Dell will report to the Pupil Welfare Committee of the Governing Body Annually.

7. Who can join?  All parents and Carers are welcome to join the Parents Forum at Swallow Dell with at least one representative from each year group  At least one member of staff shall attend every meeting. Members of the Parent Forum shall be expected to remain on the Parents Forum for a minimum of 1 academic year. Members are re-elected annually. If a Parent Forum member acts in a way that is considered by other members to undermine the objective of the Parent Forum, their membership of the Parent Forum shall be terminated if the majority of members agree. Termination of membership would be confirmed in writing to the member.
