Saint George’s flag (England), which is a red cross with a white background, and Saint Andrew’s flag (Scotland), which is a white “x” and a blue background, put together forms the original union flag. Later, Saint Patrick’s flag (Ireland) was added, which is a red “x” with a white background was added, making the flag that the United Kingdom uses today. +=+=

In a constitutional monarchy, there are elected representatives, called parliament, and a king or a queen. The king or queen has no real power, they are more of a symbol of the country. He or she is called the monarch. Parliament has the power and controls the government. They create laws, or “Acts of Parliament”, and the king or queen announces them. They are voted for by the citizens of the country. The United Kingdom is one example of a constitutional monarchy.

The capital city of the United Kingdom is London. London is a very famous city, so I’m sure you know of it. It has major buildings in it such as Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. This period was from 6000 BC- 800 AD. There probably weren’t many people, and the people that were there were not modern at all. There were some events going on, though. In 4500 BC the first farming techniques were learned in what is now the United Kingdom. Also in 4500 BC the first pottery was created, stone tools are made, and shelters are created and are being created more stable. In 3300 BC to 1200 BC the first stone circles, such as the well- known Stonehenge were built. In 2300 BC “Amesbury Archer” dies near a stone circle. In 1800 BC, the first copper mines are dug. Although there weren’t many people around, there still were some things happening.

16 VIRTUAL MUSEUM OF NATIVE AMERICAN WOMEN DAILY LIFE FAMOUS WOMEN MATRILINEAL TRIBES CREATION MYTHS CURATOR INFORMATION Name of Museum Back to Room 3 Here are some landforms in the United Kingdom:  The Cheviot Hills, which is a long range of low mountains, that are about 35 miles long.  The Pennies, which are a chain of hills that are each 600-900 meters each.  Scafell Pike, which is a mountain that is the highest point in the United Kingdom. It is 3,205 feet high.  The Seven Sisters are cliffs made of chalk rock.  The Stonehenge, which is an ancient monument, created by people long ago.

It is also the main language of the United Kingdom. Many other languages are spoken in the United Kingdom, but 95% of United Kingdom citizens speak English. Therefore, English is the main language and the official language of the United Kingdom. Other languages spoken are Scottish, Welsh, and Irish. Back to Room 4

After that it goes Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, and finally, Buddhism. These are the religions of the United Kingdom. Christians worship God, and worship in a church. Muslims worship “Allah”, or God in a Mosque. The top two gods worshiped by Hindus are Shivjia Aka Lord Shiva and Ganeshji Lord Ganesha, Hindus worship at home and in temples called Mandhris. Sikhs worship Waheguru, and worship in a “Gurdwara”. Jewish people worship God, and worship in a synagogue. Finally, Buddhists worship “Buddha”, and worship in a temple. Back to Room 4
