13. Second Grade Curriculum / Language Arts Our Language Arts series is called Storytown. It includes the subject areas of Phonics, Reading, Grammar, and Spelling. Phonics Skills: The students will learn about short and long vowels, r-controlled vowels, syllable patterns, consonant blends, digraphs, dipthongs, contractions, suffixes, prefixes, homonyms, antonyms and synonyms. Reading: Students will be learning about different genres, comprehension skills and strategies, and vocabulary Grammar: Students will be learning about parts of speech and grammar rules. In addition, we will cover three kinds of writing: narrative, expository and persuasive. / Language Arts Our Language Arts series is called Storytown.
