At a standardized testing meeting I had, I learned that half the battle with testing is exposure. There is a large writing portion on the test. If you have a computer at home not only do I encourage going online to the practice the test I also encourage practicing typing. Put your child on a word document and have them practice writing with the computer. As a reminder to get to the SBA practice tests visit alohahsap.org, click on SMARTERBALANCE, then click PARENTS AND FAMILIES, you’ll find practice tests and more information on the assessment. I strongly encourage you to visit this site and have your child complete as many practice tests as possible. Half the battle with these types of standardized tests is exposure. A few kids have come to me telling me they’re moving soon, please let the office know as soon as you have dates so we can best prepare your family for school at your next duty station. (This will prepare your child for the SBA in April.)  SBA (4 th grade standardized test) now has practice tests available online! Learning to Come :  In our spelling words we work on will have the “oi” and “ow” sound patterns.  Expository Text is the genre of our stories this week.  We will be learning about pronouns and possessive pronouns  We will be multiplying fractions as well as finding area.  In science we will be learning about life science.  I have reserved computer time to practice the math portion of the SBA This Week ’ s Learning : We wrote the our spelling words that included the /u/ sound.  We discussed how inventions change our lives.  D-4 knows the effects natural disasters on our ecosystem.  We discussed area and how to calculate it.  We discussed perimeter and all the different formulas to calculate.  The different forms of lava that come from our Hawaiian volcanoes was learned.  We are inventing our own monsters and writing radio ads to try and sell them! cowboy grown frown howling flower tower grouch noises voices rejoice annoy destroy voyage mound Monday No School!
