5 An adjective can come before the noun it describes. They contacted many doctors. Everyone worried about this boy. The Andersons lived in a magnificent house. An adjective can follow a form of the verb to be. Hewitt was teeny-weeny compared to his parents. The doctor was famous for his work. The Andersons were distressed about Hewitt’s size.

6 The young baby was noisy. The tired boy was nervous about falling asleep. Many young kids love to ask questions. The tall, friendly man is my dad. Mrs. Gibson gave us many important directions. The bright, colorful flowers were just planted.

7 Add –er to most short adjectives to compare something with one other thing. Brittany is taller than Joe. A fairy tale is longer than a fable. The cat was quicker than my dog.

8 Add –est to most short adjectives to compare something with two or more things. Amy is the shortest person in her class. This knife is the sharpest knife in the drawer. That building is the oldest building in town.

9 When an adjective ends in y, change the y to an i before you add er or est. My mom is funnier than my dad. My little sister is the silliest person I know. The first problem was the easiest math problem on the test.
