Objectives of the KA1 Meeting 1.To discuss and agree on a methodology for preparing the EURON Research Roadmaps, and the Data Base of Robotics Research in Europe 2.To plan the activities of KA1

Objectives of the Key Area on Research Coordination (KA1) (according to the EURON Technical Annex) Contribute to the definition of long term plans for robotics research in Europe Provide a strategic view on the evolution of the field world-wide in a long term perspective Exploit and coordinate the efforts spent in the different countries Formulate research and technology roadmaps for robotics Define benchmarks for robotics research Establish standards for exchange of results

Definition of draft research roadmaps Proposed method for implementing this “EURON model” –STEP 1. Agree on a vision for the future, through brainstorming. –STEP 2. Define enabling research, keeping into account technological, social and economical motivations and constraints. For each building block: identify leading groups within EURON establish clusters of excellence and networks define roadmaps for research –STEP 3. Plan new projects for developing European pre-competitive demonstrators

How to Establish the Structure for Defining the Roadmaps Identify leading groups and key persons within EURON (starting from the IGs) in the areas of the “building blocks” Establish “clusters of excellence” and networks in the following areas: 1. Mechanisms (kinematics, materials, technology, etc.) and Manufacturing (including Automation) 2. Sensors, Actuators and Energy Supply 3. Control (low and high level) and Human/Machine Interfaces
