8 Stages of Growth Growth can be measured. There are 8 stages of growth. The first stage is conception which is when sexual activity happens to produce an organism. Next in stage 2 comes pregnancy, when the women is pregnant with the baby. Then in stage 3 infancy comes when the baby is born. After infancy in stage 4 comes childhood is when the child is 3 to 8 years old. Stage 5 comes adolescence when the child is 12 to 18 years old and developing into an adult. Stage 6 is adult hood when the person is a fully grown adult. Middle age in stage 7 is when the person is between the ages of 45 to 65. Lastly comes old age when the person is well over 65 years old. Then after all of that come death which is not a stage of the 8 stages of growth because it is when the person finally stops growing and developing.

4 Types of Development Physical: Learning to deal with changes to your body such as size and shape. Facial hair- Learn to shave Acne- Wash, cleanse, diet, cream- contact a doctor before using a cream Social: How to act responsibly in our society. Learn to talk with respect Learn to greet people, manner, behave. Mental: Learning to deal with your feelings Be able to know why your having certain feelings To know how to understand your feeling Intellectual: Learning to use your mind to reason Learn how to solve problems with your mind Learn to understand your problems

Conception It is producing a new child with two organisms. When a sperm fertilises an ovum. Example: A new life

Puberty Females Females -Hormones-2 -Oestrogen -Progesterone Oestrogen affects: Ovaries The hips widen so the female can give birth naturally Breast develop to feed the child when born Mind Pubic hair

Menstruation and Menstrual Cycle Menstruation: Menstruation is a women's monthly bleeding. The blood flows through the uterus and out of the vagina. Menstrual cycle: The process of ovulation and menstruation Ovulation : Is when the egg (ovum) is released from the ovary Oviduct : A tube to the uterus Progesterone: Helps in thickening the wall of uterus lining. The baby is being fed through the blood streams. The blood holds nutrients and oxygen for the baby Ovulation: Menstruation:

Puberty for Boys Testosterone – chemicals go to the testicle. Ball sack is called scrotum – it holds the testicles. - The sack carries the sperm - When a boy grows older the sack becomes bigger and te testicles lower.(They drop) - Semen is the liquid that feeds the sperm (all sugar) - Lazy sperm receives no food

Self – Esteem What is self-esteem? Your self-esteem is the way that you as a person see yourself either in a great or bad way depending on your current mood and surroundings. 2. What makes a person have high self-esteem? A person positive interactions with other people and with the world is what causes a person to have high self-esteem. 3. What makes a person have low self-esteem? If you are unhappy of yourself as a person you will tend to have a low self-esteem. It is caused by thinking your unloved and disrespected or you might just think that no one can understand you the way you expected them to. 4. Who influences your self-esteem and how? Give 2 examples Friend and family can influence your self-esteem because they are most likely the ones that can put you in a good mood and cheer you up. If you have a family that cares for you and friends that respect you it makes you feel great about yourself. 5. How does media have an impact on your self-esteem? Give 2 examples Media can impact your self-esteem in both ways positive and negative. If you see an article photo, video that puts a smile on your face your high self- esteem will rise but if you come up a photo that you might be jealous of or might be affected by your low self-esteem can takeover. 6. Why is it important to strive to have a high self-esteem? It is important to have a high self-esteem because it will allow you to mix and interact socially with more confidence and achieve better academic results. 7. Mention 8 ways you can improve your self-esteem Being around your family that cares for you. Have friends that respect you Do thing that you enjoy doing Don’t strive for perfection Positive self-talk Exercise Don't beat yourself up when you make a mistake Don’t compare yourself with others 8. Why is adolescence a time when your feelings about yourself and others be a little confusing? Adolesce is a time where our feelings are confusing because we are in the process of forming our identity and our personality. 9. How does a feeling of belonging help adolescents? A feeling of belonging helps adolescents because we are much less likely to take risks with our health and wellbeing for example, taking drugs. 10. Why did 40% of students feel that they did not have anyone who knew them well? They were all still in the process of figuring out their personality and feelings.
