Current Event US, South Korean missile destroyers in fresh show of force to North Korea The US and South Korean navies put on a show of force in the Sea of Japan on Monday, the latest in a string of displays of military might in response to North Korea's testing of nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles. Monday's exercises saw the US guided missile destroyer USS Spruance join ships, submarines and planes from the South Korean navy in waters east of the Korean Peninsula. But during the joint drill, a South Korean helicopter with three people on board crashed into the sea, according to South Korea's Navy. Shortly after taking off, the helicopter issued a distress signal, before disappearing from the radar, added the statement. Nearby forces have been deployed to find the downed helicopter. It was the first time U.S. and South Korean vessels have operated together in waters so close to the east coast of North Korea, a US Navy official said. The ships were armed with long-range, precision, land-attack cruise missiles, the official said. Family life Women are traditionally responsible for household chores including cooking and cleaning. However, as time has progressed they are also taking on larger roles outside of the home. The addition of working outside of the home has caused growing tension in some cases as women find themselves over-burdened with responsibility. Women comprise over half of the labor force, however they still remain below their male counterparts in status. The father reigns as the head of the family, and males in the family, especially the father and eldest son, receive an abundance of respect. The role of the wife of an eldest son is to take care of her husband’s aging parents. Traditionally, men are the sole providers and decision makers, however, in the modern day, this tradition is slowly decomposing. Marriage arrangement is still very important to some Koreans because marriage represents a merging of families, not just a relationship between a man and a woman.
